Dear Parents,
We had a packed Chapel for what proved to be a thoroughly enjoyable nativity, with all children from Nursery to Year 2 showcasing impressive singing, drama, and spoken word. In addition to celebrating the festive season, we reflected on our commitment to community service. It was heart-warming to see that Years 1 and 2 had written letters inviting elderly residents from local care homes to attend the dress rehearsal – a wonderful civic initiative from our youngest children.
This week also featured some strong netball and rugby fixtures, both home and away, for our Prep and Upper Prep. A special mention goes to Christian, who has been selected to play the U12 Surrey Golf Team – a fantastic achievement. Year 5 also enjoyed an enriching visit to the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth.
Looking ahead, I had the privilege of chairing the inaugural Bridewell AI Implementation Group alongside colleagues from Longacre School, King Edward’s, and Barrow Hills. During this meeting, we shared initial plans for 2025, focusing on supporting staff, parents, and pupils with the ethical and safe implementation of emerging technologies that we hope will add significant value. This marked the first active collaboration within the extended Bridewell Foundation of schools, and I look forward to sharing updates on this important work as we move into 2025.
For the immediate future, we have a busy schedule to close the term:
Monday at 9.00am: Christingle Service
Monday at 7.00pm: Year 8 production ‘Lord of the Flies’ (for parents and pupils aged 11+)
Tuesday at 7.00pm: Carol Service
Thursday: A special Christmas lunch for the children, with festive jumpers encouraged (no need to buy anything new!).
We are excited to finish the term with joy and celebration.
Kind regards,
Mr John Towers
Dear Parents,
We have had yet another busy week in Upper Prep as the term comes hurtling to a close. The arrival of the tree in reception, plus the beautifully decorated refectory and the antics of Buttons the elf, have put us all in the mood for Christmas but the children have continued to work hard and remain engaged in their lessons.
It was a joy to watch the Pre-Prep Nativity this week. The children in Upper Prep really loved seeing the younger ones perform with such confidence and they were a very supportive audience. Unfortunately we had to postpone both the dress rehearsal and the evening performance of ‘Lord of the Flies’ due to illness in the cast. The show must go on however, and this production will go ahead on Monday 9th December at 7.00pm. The cast have worked incredibly hard, showing enthusiasm, commitment and resilience this week, so please do come and support them on Monday if you can. Due to the sensitive content of this literary classic, this production is only suitable for those aged 11 years and above.
It is always lovely to hear what the Upper Prep children get up to when they are not at school and I was so proud to hear that Mateo has been chosen to go to Barcelona with his hockey team, Guildford, to play in a very prestigious competition this weekend. We wish you well Mateo and look forward to hearing all about it! Congratulations to George from Year 8 this week too, who has not only been learning hundreds of lines for his role as Ralph in ‘Lord of the Flies’, but also starring as Gordon Shakespeare in his drama group’s production of ‘Nativity’. Well done George!
Finally, here are some dates for your diary for the last week of the autumn term. It is packed full of festive fun!
Monday: ‘Lord of the Flies’ 7.00pm
Tuesday: Carol Service 7.00pm start (mulled wine from 6.15pm)
Wednesday : Panto trip!
Thursday: Christmas jumper day and Christmas lunch
Friday: House Quiz Final – and term ends at 12.00pm.
Have a lovely weekend everyone!

Dear Parents,
This week has truly been brimming with festive cheer, and it’s been wonderful to see the children fully immersed in the spirit of the season!
Tuesday was particularly busy with a delightful piano recital. Our young musicians performed with confidence and poise, and it was clear they had worked incredibly hard to prepare for the event. Bravo to all the performers – you should be very proud of your achievements! We also enjoyed the enchanting Pre-Prep Nativity. From angelic singing to heartfelt acting, the children captivated the audience and filled the room with festive magic. A huge well done to all the children and the staff who helped make it such a success.
Throughout the week, Buttons the elf has been keeping everyone entertained with his mischievous antics, spreading Christmas cheer and adding a touch of fun to the school day. The children eagerly await his next move!
On Friday, Year 5 had the opportunity to step back in time with a fantastic trip to Portsmouth to learn about the Mary Rose. The children were captivated by the history and artifacts they explored, bringing this fascinating chapter of maritime history to life.
To round off the week, I was fortunate to catch part of the Bridewell Choir rehearsals for the upcoming Carol Service. The children’s voices sounded beautiful, and the hard work they’re putting into their preparations is evident. It promises to be a spectacular event and a perfect way to celebrate the season together.
As we head deeper into December, the excitement is building and there are plenty more magical moments to come.
Have a joyful and restful weekend.
Miss Tyrrell
Dear Parents,
Undoubtedly, one of our highlights of the Pre-Prep calendar was yesterday’s Nativity. Every child from Nursery through to Year 2 entertained a packed chapel on Thursday as they treated us to their upbeat performance of ‘Prickly Hay’. The enthusiasm in the children’s actions and singing, as well as the prowess Year 2 showed in memorising and delivering lines, was clear for all to see. Everyone left the performance full of Christmas cheer and memories that will stay with the children as well as the parents.
Earlier in the week, we welcomed residents from Bramshott Grange Care Home in Liphook, who joined us for the dress rehearsal. Year 2 had written letters inviting them to watch their performance, detailing where and when it was and what it was about, as well as offering tea and coffee to enjoy during their visit. Our visitors loved every minute!
Congratulations to our children who received Work of the Week certificates this week. Alexander (Rec), Holly (1G) and Jake (2G) all received their certificates for their efforts which are deservedly recognised, including team work, maths addition of two 2-digit numbers, and beautifully detailed clay models.
Thank you to those who have been posting their Christmas cards in the Christmas Post Box by Mrs Hubble’s desk – these have been delivered daily by our Year 2 elves. The post box will remain open until the last day of term so there’s still time to write and send your cards.
A final jam packed week of festivities next week, starting with the Christingle Service on Monday morning for Reception to Year 6 which begins at 9.00am. We look forward to seeing many of you there.
Have a lovely weekend.
Mrs Barnett
The Bacon Butties stall spread festive cheer this chilly morning, raising a brilliant £195! Thank you all.
